Growth of Yuwie to September 07

Yuwie opened their doors about the start of July 2007. As of Thursday 20th September, there are nearly 80,000 members on Yuwie and approximately 40,000 of those have signed up during September alone. See the Alexa traffic ranking for Yuwie below:

As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users). The three-month change is determined by comparing the site's current rank with its rank from three months ago. For example, on July 1, the three-month change would show the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter.

What is Reach?

Reach measures the number of users. Reach is typically expressed as the percentage of all Internet users who visit a given site. So, for example, if a site like yahoo.com has a reach of 28%, this means that of all global Internet users measured by Alexa, 28% of them visit yahoo.com. Alexa's one-week and three-month average reach are measures of daily reach, averaged over the specified time period. The three-month change is determined by comparing a site's current reach with its values from three months ago.
What are Page Views?

Page views measure the number of pages viewed by Alexa Toolbar users. Multiple page views of the same page made by the same user on the same day are counted only once. The page views per user numbers are the average numbers of unique pages viewed per user per day by the users visiting the site. The three-month change is determined by comparing a site's current page view numbers with those from three month ago.

Social Networking Phenomenon

Extra Extra Read all about it.

This blog has been developed to record the development of what appears to be an exciting social networking phenomenon. Rather than relying on hype, and spin my idea is to take a regular snap shot of the happenings and events at YUWIE and present them here with relevant links.

Why? Because when I first heard about Yuwie and the often quoted projected potential for active Yuwie members to make $10,000 a month without investing a penny, well the cynic in me, laughs and says "That's a scam!".

I revisited the site yesterday - and was amazed at the growth in memberships and activities since August. And so the idea was born - why not chart the growth of this new social networking site - so that over time we can see what unfolds. !

what is Yuwie ?

What is Yuwie

Yuwie is a new social network community, that was launched in July 2007. At Yuwie you can send messages, upload pictures, write blogs, join clubs, send messages and make friends. These same features are already available on other sites, but there is an important difference.

Others social networking sites are making an estimated $20 million a month while the users do all the work, Yuwie argues that, unlike the other sites, they want to share their revenue with the users.Yuwie has a detailed set of videos that explains how they are 'changing the game' by paying their users for 'playing around on the internet'.

This new social network differs from others like MySpace in that it PAYS its users for their online activity and the activities of those whom they refer. You get paid for every action you take on the site. Every change you make to your profile, every picture/blog/video you post, and not only that, you get paid for every time another user looks at your profile or content that you have created or posted.

On the 15th of each month, Yuwie decides (based on how much they made in the previous month) how much will be given out to each user, an amount that you can track from the 'earnings' section of your profile. Page visits are counted and are paid for at the end of every month.

While the amount of you make depends on how much you interact with the site, here is a look at sample earnings based on the 10 levels of referrals and assuming a revenue-sharing rate of $0.50. (The revenue share rate for the month of August 2007 was $0.47 per thousand views.)

The chart below assumes you refer 3 people, and those 3 people refer 3, then those refer 3, through 10 levels, and each referral gets 1000 page views for the month, and the month's RSR is $0.50.

The message that is given is that Your job is NOT to find hundreds and hundreds of subscribers, your job is to find 3 and teach them to do the same. Find 3 and teach them how to find 3 and teach their 3 to find 3 etc. etc. etc..
